Sleep should be a bigger priority. It impacts our functionality, our mental health and our general wellbeing. Yesterday the government was urged to take sleep hygiene more seriously and educate the public on why good sleep habits are important. At Foothold, we know how important sleep is. That’s why we were pleased to announce our new partnership with Sleepstation and new sleep support at our AGM on 27 February 2020.
A lot of us need sleep support
Sleep can be impacted for lots of reasons – from stress to your partner snoring. It can even be impacted by the mere worrying of whether you’ll get a good night’s sleep. Sleep problems are prevalent – in fact three in ten people have sleep problems. And while we might just feel a little more tired than usual, a lack of sleep can cause significant impact on us the next day. For example, if you’ve had less than six hours of sleep then you’ll likely see a 20% cognitive decline the next day. Meaning that you’re not functioning as well as you could be.
Why Sleepstation?
In our three-year strategy, we have a plan to triple the number of people we support. To do that we need to identify where our community need support and make sure it’s given to them in a way that suits their needs. Sleep is a big problem for a lot of us, but so is finding time to go to a clinic or find the right person to talk to about it. Sleepstation offers the same sleep support as a clinic but it’s delivered online. For instance, there are educational pieces available through video or text for when people are ready to learn. Also, there’s a secure chat function to discuss how you can apply what you’ve learnt.
World sleep day
On 13 March 2020 it’s World sleep day. And what better day to launch our new support? We’ll be officially launching our partnership with Sleepstation and we look forward to working with our community to help them improve their sleep – and their overall wellbeing. So set your alarms because it’s time to wake up to good sleep.
