Leave a lasting legacy
Leaving a gift to Foothold in your Will is a fantastic way to give something back to the engineering community in a big way, whilst helping ensure we can be there for the next generations of engineers and their families.
Having an up-to-date Will is an essential part of planning for you and your family’s future, but did you know that Wills also play an important role in funding our life-changing work?
When you leave a legacy gift to Foothold it is a profound and meaningful way of supporting the engineering community, helping us to provide vital support to engineers in need for decades to come.
How do I leave a gift in my Will?
There are three main ways to leave a gift to charity in your Will:
A share of the remainder of your assets. This is a popular choice because it ensures your loved ones are protected first. By choosing this option, you’d leave a percentage of your estate to Foothold once your family and friends’ shares are sorted out. (This is often called a residuary legacy).
A specified lump sum. Here, you specify a set amount, for example £100, £1,000 or £10,000, which you’d like to leave to the charity (this is often called a pecuniary legacy).
Leaving specific items. Instead of leaving a monetary gift, you may choose to donate some of your personal belongings which have financial value – for example, jewellery, shares or antiques.

How to include Foothold in your Will
It’s a common myth that only rich or famous people can leave a legacy – in fact, anyone can choose to leave a gift in their Will.
If you are based in the UK and have not yet made a Will, we have 2 options with our carefully selected partners through which you may be able to access our free Will writing offer:
1. We have a partnership with Octopus Legacy - one of the fastest growing online will writers in the UK. They’ve taken the headache out of making simple wills with a quick and easy service where each will is checked over by a legal expert.
Click here to claim your free will with the code FOOTHOLDFREE.
(you don't need to register with Foothold first before using this option)
Octopus Legacy also offers telephone and face to face will writing services for those that would rather speak to a solicitor, or receive a home visit. To find out more and to book an appointment simply call the team on 0800 773 4014.
You can read Octopus Legacy's FAQs here
2. Foothold also work in partnership with National Free Wills Network. Though this UK network of solicitors, you can find one local to you to arrange an appointment with. After registering with us, Foothold will send your details to National Free Wills Network, who will provide you with an information pack, voucher, and a list of local solicitors who are part of the network based on your postcode.

(places are limited and given on a first come, first served basis).
Already have a Will?
If you already have a Will but would like to amend it to include a gift to Foothold, you can make an addendum called a Codicil. Your Will-writing professional will be able to arrange this for you.
You will need to include our formal registered charity details:
Foothold, The Institution of Engineering & Technology Benevolent Fund, registered charity 208925, of Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall Industrial Estate, Suffolk, IP28 7DE.
