2025 Crisis Support Appeal

Engineers and their families are facing crisis and urgently need our help. Please donate whatever you can today to help fund out life-changing support in your engineering community.

Nobody is immune to unexpected crises...

None of us should have to face them alone...

Your Foothold is here.

When crisis hits, Foothold is here to answer the call for help.

We’re a lifeline, ensuring engineers and their families never have to face these challenges alone.

As the nights draw in and the weather gets colder, many of us find comfort in our warm homes and nourishing meals.

But there are some in our engineering community who are struggling to
simply have a safe warm home.

People who:

  • cannot afford the rent or mortgage
  • cannot afford urgent maintenance to make their house safe
  • will have to move out of their family homes
  • will sit in the cold unable to afford the heating bill
  • are unable to put food on the table

Foothold is here to answer their calls for help when crisis hits. We’re a lifeline, to ensure engineers and their families never have to face these challenges alone.

  • “After being made redundant, universal credit barely covered the mortgage, never mind food and the rest of the bills.

It was a desperate time, but Foothold helped keep me going financially and emotionally.”

  • “Following the passing of my late husband, our family struggled  significantly to make ends meet.

The support from Foothold has been an essential lifeline, helping us cover basic daily expenses. Without it, I truly do not know how we would have survived.”

  • “Foothold’s support made it possible for the family to meet essential needs such as food, clothing, medical care, and daily living expenses.

It gave us hope during a very difficult time.”

  • “Foothold’s support has been a godsend to us. They literally saved me from bankruptcy and a life on the streets.

And I’ve been able to be a good father and get my son the support he needs.”

Help us to ensure that no-one in the engineering community faces a crisis alone.

Regular monthly and annual donations enable us to budget and plan our support, so we can be there for as many engineers and their families as possible.

Why support our life-changing work?

Why support our life-changing work?

Every day, we receive calls for help from engineers or their family members who are facing redundancy, struggling with their mental health, living through bereavement, coming to terms with a diagnosis of serious illness or disability, and more.

Circumstances that, without warning, could also affect you, or someone you care about.

How does my donation make a difference?

In 2023-24 you helped us provide over £1.2m in grants to people in our community facing unexpected crises.

We don't receive any funding from statutory sources. The generosity of the engineering community over the past 135 years is what makes this all possible.

We share our impact in our annual Impact Report - you can read more about all of the support we deliver here: Your impact - Foothold

Imelda Circle Image1

“Foothold gave me financial and emotional support when I needed it most.”

The kindness and generosity they showed me has contributed to who I am now.

Today, I have a home, a job as a carer, and a community. I’m a Eucharistic minister, and I’ve made many new friends as I rebuild my life. I am proud of how far I’ve come.
