Winter support fund appeal

Please donate today. We urgently need your help to support vulnerable engineers and their families over the winter months.

We need your support

With the darker, colder days, increased financial burden and reduced opportunities to socialise, the winter months can take a real financial, physical and mental toll on struggling engineers and their families. And right now, the cost of living crisis is adding additional stress and worry.

How your donations help

This year we urgently need to raise at least £30,000 for our Winter Support Fund. This will enable us to support community members in crisis, by providing emergency financial grants, critical access to mental health services, and other life-changing support.

Give a fellow engineer your support this winter.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Thank you.

So far this year we have received over 1,000 calls for help, with many more to come over the next few months:

“Myself, my wife and my four children are all sleeping on the floor at the moment, and it’s getting colder by the night. Please kindly consider our request for assistance to buy some beds, as we are really struggling and cannot afford to purchase them ourselves.”

“Last week we were evicted from our house, our savings totally are exhausted and we are living in temporary accommodation. My business got totally ruined by the pandemic. We were just starting to get things back on track when we received our eviction notice. I have two kids, and my wife is pregnant with my third.”

“My wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and is halfway through her treatment. She was also admitted to hospital with Covid shortly after. She has not been able to work since her diagnosis, and we are now struggling financially.”

Please donate today. Together we can make sure no engineer has to face this crisis alone.

Regular monthly donations of any amount allow us to budget and plan the support we deliver, so we can help as many people as possible.

This is just a snapshot of the difference your donations can make to engineers like you.

“I got to the point where I was on the verge of homelessness, and was suffering with depression. On top of this, I also got divorced and was left to care for my young autistic son, who needs special treatment. Foothold’s support has been a godsend to us. They literally saved me from bankruptcy and a life on the streets. And I’ve been able to be a good father, and get my son the support he needs too.”

“We’ve been through such an ordeal as a family – it makes me feel emotional just thinking about it. It was constant dead end after dead end. I didn’t know what else I could do. But within a few days of my call to Foothold, I got a response with an offer of support for counselling sessions. I’m just very, very, very grateful that they had my back.”

“After my breakdown, I wasn’t in a good place at all. I spent nine months hiding away from the world, feeling unable to engage with anyone. So Foothold recommended that I take part in their telephone befriending service. I was matched with Tania, who was like a breath of fresh air. We chat about everything, and she’s so supportive. It’s been a really positive experience for me.

No-one should feel unable to cope

As an independent charity, we rely on donations from our community members to fund our life-changing work.

But the rising cost of living is also putting extra pressure on our own resources, potentially putting our support at risk. We urgently need your help to ensure we can continue to be there for our community this winter.

That’s why I’m asking you, if you can, to please consider supporting your fellow engineers, by donating even just a small amount to Foothold today.

Together, we can make these darker days a little brighter for engineers who need it most.

Give a fellow engineer your support during this crisis.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Thank you.

We understand that you might not be able to donate right now.  You can still support your fellow engineers by leaving an inspiring message here - www.myfoothold.org/community-messages
