Cost of living crisis appeal

Please donate today. We urgently need your help to support vulnerable engineers and their families during the cost of living crisis.

The cost of living crisis

Since the start of the cost-of-living crisis in Spring, we’ve witnessed a drastic increase in levels of poverty. Energy bills increased by over 50% in April 2022, and are rising again in October just as we enter the darker, colder seasons.

We receive messages every day from people who don’t know how they are going to pay their next bill. This is only going to get worse in the coming months.

How your donations help

Between May and July this year alone, we were able to provide 286 grants to people in need of financial support, including 149 energy grants. This was made possible by kind donations from people in our community.

Give a fellow engineer your support during this crisis.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Thank you.

A few examples of messages we receive:

"I'm finding it very hard since my husband died. I have to get my oil tank filled before the winter, because of my condition I have to stay warm. But to fill my oil tank is going to cost £1.05 per litre, I just can’t afford it. I would be grateful for any help. I can put on more jumpers but I need hot water for showers."

"My wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and is halfway through her treatment. She was also admitted to hospital with Covid-19 shortly after. She has not been able to work since her diagnosis and we are now really starting to struggle financially."

"I have epilepsy and have regular uncontrolled seizures. Our daily living costs have also been tremendously affected recently. I have two children. I wish I could be in work to support them fully but my epilepsy is acting as a barrier to gaining a job."

Please donate today. Together we can make sure no engineer has to face this crisis alone.

Regular monthly donations of any amount allow us to budget and plan the support we deliver, so we can help as many people as possible.

No-one should feel unable to cope

As an independent charity, we rely on donations from our community members to fund our life-changing work and provide grants for struggling families. As the cost of living continues to increase more people in our community will require our support.

However, the rising cost of living is putting extra pressure on our own resources too, potentially impacting the number of people we can support through the crisis. That’s why I am asking you to please consider helping your fellow engineers, by donating even just a small amount to Foothold today.

A gift of just £50 could help a struggling family keep their house warm. £30 could help them put food on the table.

No-one should have to choose between heating or eating. If you are able to, please help us today and together we can protect the most vulnerable people in the engineering community from the worst of this crisis.

Give a fellow engineer your support during this crisis.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Thank you.
